I can’t believe its been 16 months since I last updated this blog. Here’s something I had in draft since Jan 28, 2013, apparently. I probably wanted to add more to it, but its going out like this for now.

So, I’m making my way through American Vampire, and its a blast. It has all of the energy of Preacher and some of the ideas that I first saw in the old Vampire: The Masquerade RPG, from back in the 90s. Its a series written by Scott Snyder, illustrated by Rafael Albuquerque and published by Vertigo. Stephen King also wrote half of the first five issues, with Rafael illustrating that as well.

I’m going through individual issues, and as of last night I finished #25, but its probably easier to grab these as trade paperbacks (or graphic novels, or digital editions, or whatever the kids are calling them these days). Because of that, I’ll write a little about the series based on how its collected in the graphic novels.

The gist of the series is that it follows the trail of bodies, I mean antics, of Skinner Sweet, not just a vampire, but an American vampire and the story of Pearl Jones, his progeny. So far, they’re separate, but intertwined tales. They cross over at several points and impact each other from both near and afar (across both time and space, in their way). Continue reading
